Werner Electric Supply Celebrates 60 Years of Business

Neenah, Wis., September 22, 2008 - Werner Electric Supply Co., headquartered in Neenah, Wis., celebrated its 60th anniversary during the month of September.
“We have a strong heritage of building relationships with the vendors and customers we do business with,” says Lynn T. MacDonald who purchased Werner Electric in 1986. “These relationships are the foundation for our success.”
Werner Electric was founded by Walter R. Werner in 1948. Werner’s son, Lynn, succeeded him as owner until Lynn Werner passed away in 1984. Lynn MacDonald purchased the company from the Werner family, initating a period of rapid growth that continues to this day.
“My vision for Werner Electric Supply included strategies that made us competitive with national chains and resistant to soft economies,” MacDonald says.
Since MacDonald took over in 1984, Werner Electric’s sales have increased from $7 million to over $200 million. The company has diversified its product and service offerings. These factors combined with strategically placed service centers throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Werner Electric is less vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy.
“Over the years, technology and market conditions have changed, and they will continue to change. But the customer-centric principles under which we operate remain constant.”
Werner Electric Supply provides solutions for a wide variety of applications, above and beyond traditional electrical projects. Capabilities include safety solutions ranging from machine safety to personal protective equipment, and even engineering. The company also provides inventory management solutions.
“Everything we do is intended to help our customers be the best in their industry, to gain the competitive advantage,” says MacDonald. “We make significant investments in personnel and inventory to make the entire buying process pain-free. And then we follow it up with great service.”
Werner Electric Supply launched this year’s celebration with open houses throughout its territory. The theme of the celebration is “Connecting With You Since 1948.” This reflects the commitment of Werner Electric to build and maintain partnerships among its vendors, customers and employees. It also reflects efforts the company makes to get involved in the communities that support its business.
“We want to give back to the communities that have done so much for us,” MacDonald says. Food drives, charity golf events, and employee fundraising and volunteer efforts highlight the company’s dedication to “giving back.”
Werner Electric is a wholesale distributor of electrical products and services including industrial automation, lighting, electrical and data communication equipment. The company has a total workforce of 370, with 170 based in Neenah. Founded in 1948, Werner Electric primarily serves the electrical control needs of original equipment manufacturers, the maintenance and automation needs of industrial plants and commercial buildings, and the electrical needs of construction contractors.
